A Brief History

FIRST LINE FILMS, INC. (originally named Cadicy International Corp.) has been in business over thirty five years. It was started in New York, then re-located to Miami, Florida, which gave it good access to the Latin American gateway. Initially, the company distributed films theatrically and was also involved in production.

Mr. George Caputo, the founder of Cadicy International Corp and First Line Films, was quite a visionary. He was the first distributor to license films for television in Central and South America. He was well known in Europe and Latin America and could settle a deal with a handshake anywhere.

The RKO library was purchased in perpetuity by him, and the films were dubbed into Spanish at various labs in Mexico, Colombia and Puerto Rico. These were some of the American films that became so well known and loved by the Latin audiences. The REPUBLIC library was a later acquisition, and these films were all dubbed into the Spanish language and distributed to the Spanish networks in the U.S. and all over Latin America.

Subsequently the company opened its own dubbing studios in Miami. There it dubbed the European films, many classics, which it had acquired from various famous Italian, French, and Spanish producers. It also dubbed films into Spanish for such clients as The Christian Broadcasting Network (the 700 Club), which were telecast throughout Latin America. Another branch of the company was related to home video distribution in English. It was also among the first to offer films in the Spanish language, in the PAL and NTSC formats.

A large catalog of Japanese cartoons were acquired and dubbed into the Spanish language, many of these were the preludes to the “Anime” of today. These proved very popular among the Spanish audiences in the U.S. and in Latin America. These included such series as “Mazinger”, “Ninja”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Huckleberry Finn”, some Sci-fi cartoons, and “Godzilla” feature films. The company licensed many soap operas (novelas) from Latin America and distributed them in Italy, Spain and the U.S. for television audiences.

First Line Films, Inc. has distributed films in English, Italian and French. Among its clients include The Armed Forces Network, the multilingual stations in Canada and the government stations in Mexico. The company relocated to the West coast in 2000 and is still continuing to distribute its films in its territories throughout the world.
